[AIPU-WATON]What is the safest method for unloading the cable reels?

Unloading cable reels at a construction site or any other location requires careful attention to safety. Here are the safest methods for unloading cable reels, referencing information from two sources.

Preparing for Unloading

  1. Coupling the Trailer: For optimal safety, the cable trailer must be securely coupled to the towing vehicle.
  2. Activating Controls: At the control panel, both isolation switches should be turned ON, and the ignition key turned to START.
  3. Lowering the Jacklegs: The hydraulic jackleg controls for both the right and left sides should be activated to lower the hydraulic jacklegs.
  4. Grounding the Trailer: It’s crucial to ensure that the cable trailer is completely grounded and stable.

Unloading Process

  1. Releasing the Spindle: The spindle should be released from the hydraulic lift arms by removing the locking pins from both sides of the spindle cradle. The locking pins should be placed on the wheel arches.
  2. Lifting and Lowering the Spindle: The hydraulic lift arms’ UNLOAD and LOAD controls should be activated to lift and lower the spindle to the ground.
  3. Removing the Carrier Bearing: The carrier bearing fitted with a chain should be removed.
  4. Removing the Spindle Cone: The spindle cone should be removed.
  5. Inserting the Spindle: The spindle should be inserted through the centre of the cable drum.
  6. Replacing the Spindle Cone and Carrier Bearing: The spindle cone and the carrier bearing should be replaced.
  7. Tightening the Spindle Cone: The spindle cone should be tightened firmly.

Post-Unloading Steps

  1. Retracting the Cable Drum: The hydraulic lift arms should be activated to retract the cable drum into a safe travel position.
  2. Aligning the Spindle: The spindle must be parallel to the frame when retracting the cable drum.
  3. Adjusting Position: If necessary, the position should be adjusted with the hydraulic lift arms.
  4. Replacing Locking Pins: The locking pins should be replaced on both sides.
  5. Retracting Hydraulic Jacklegs: The hydraulic jacklegs should be fully retracted.
  6. Ready for Towing: After these steps, the cable drum trailer is ready for towing.
