Dubai, UAE:
In an unprecedented turn of events, Middle East Energy 2024 has been canceled due to extreme weather conditions that have besieged the region.
The decision, announced by Middle East Energy officials, comes after a tumultuous period marked by severe storms and hazardous travel conditions.
- Official Announcement: Why MME2024 cancelled
The cancellation, described as “incredibly difficult” by organizers, was prompted by the safety concerns of exhibitors, visitors, and team members. The adverse weather conditions of the past two days have rendered travel to the event impossible for the majority of participants. Furthermore, the impact of the storm has extended to the exhibition halls themselves, with reports of damage to infrastructure and power supplies.
In an official statement released from Dubai, Middle East Energy expressed their heartfelt disappointment at the turn of events. Recognizing the significance of the event to both attendees and the industry at large, organizers emphasized their commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of all involved.
Peter Hall, President of Informa IMEA, organizers of the event, conveyed his regrets over the cancellation, acknowledging the importance of Middle East Energy to the industry. Joining him in the statement were Chris Speller, Vice President – Energy, and Azzan Mohammed, Group Director – Energy, who echoed sentiments of disappointment and concern for the well-being of participants.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was hit by the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the desert country, causing major disruptions to transportation and businesses and a range of service outages. The city of Dubai was especially hard hit, with 6.26 in. of rain – roughly twice its annual average – recorded in a 24-hour period. It left much of the city’s outdoor infrastructure underwater.
Middle East Energy, known as the region’s leading energy exhibition and conference, annually attracts over 1,300 exhibitors from around the world. The event serves as a platform for showcasing the latest innovations and solutions across various sectors of the energy industry.
