The RS-422 (TIA/EIA-422) has higher speed, better noise resistance and longer cable length than the older RS-232C standard.
The RS-422 system can transmit data at rates up to 10 Mbit/s and can transmit data up to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet). The RS-422 was widely used in early Macintosh computers. It is implemented through a multi-pin connector in RS-232 devices such as modems, AppleTalk networks, RS-422 printers, and other peripherals.
